Let there be (LED) light!

Boost collagen and elastin production with gentle LED light therapy.

How does LED light work to help improve skin?

L.E.D. stands for “light-emitting diodes”, which are clinically proven to rejuvenate all skin types. Whether you have dry, sensitive skin, uneven tone, acne, oily skin, visible pores or a combination, LED light therapy can help improve the appearance of your skin.

Simply shining a red light on your face won’t do the trick, and here’s why. LED Light therapy helps improve the appearance of skin by altering cellular activity. You might hear people talk about what “colour” they’re using on their skin, but it’s the frequency of light that matters. This is what’s able to penetrate through your skin and encourage regeneration on a cellular level.

By using various wavelengths of these light-emitting diodes over the face, the cells in the dermis layer of the skin convert that light to energy, using it as “fuel”. The fibroblast cells in the dermis layer then produce collagen and elastin, which give us fuller, plumper skin together with healing and rejuvenation. Different colours work for specific skin benefits, which is why you’ll see various colours of light used, with blue for acne and antibacterial properties and red for wrinkles, fine lines and inflammation. Dp Dermaceuticals L.E.D. Face Mask treatments are not unlike Dermapen Microneedling treatments in some ways. Both work by triggering your skin’s healing response to create customised regeneration, repair and rejuvenation. They work excellently together to produce even better and faster results.

The only type of “downtime” you can expect with a LED treatment is a blissful 15 minutes out of your schedule.

What skin conditions is it useful for treating?

LED light therapy is clinically proven to help get rid of fine lines and wrinkles, as well as target other common skincare concerns.

It’s the perfect beginner-advanced treatment for those looking to reduce the signs of ageing, acne-causing bacteria, redness, sun damage and pigmentation, treat dehydrated and inflamed skin, as well as scar healing.

As a bonus, LED therapy also promotes the production of serotonin. This naturally occurring chemical is essential for sleep, wellbeing and happiness.

The non-invasive treatment involves exposing your skin to red (633nm) and near infra-red (830nm) light frequencies. These frequencies don’t contain harmful UV rays and absorb easily into the skin.

In fact, exposing your skin to this cool wavelength has been proven to have several beneficial effects on the skin. It’s a rejuvenation technique that is entirely painless and even relaxing.

Near-infrared light is optimal for skin anti-ageing as it penetrates deeper than other wavelengths. You wouldn’t be able to see this light with a naked eye, but it’s combined in the LEDs in the Dp Dermaceuticals LED Masks with the red light. It’s responsible for your cells producing better quality offspring and deeper wound healing for skin and pain. It has also been shown to improve hair growth when combined with other therapies.

Cosmeceutical Director from Dermapenworld, Corri Matthews explains, “In comparison to blue or yellow light, these 2 light frequencies travel the deepest. It stimulates collagen at a deeper level, so you’re getting better results that last longer.”

Red Light Therapy is also safe for the eyes. Dp Dermaceuticals LED Masks are produced to an international standard, IEC62471, guaranteeing eye safety. Furthermore, it’s FDA approved, and CE approved. You don’t even need to wear protective goggles or keep your eyes shut.

How do you tell if something isn’t going to be an effective quality and what risks do you face with substandard LED products?

The best at-home LED light therapy device is comfortable and offers professional-grade light, meaning professional-grade results. Some hard claustrophobic masks are heavy on your face, putting pressure on your eyes or nose. Dp Dermaceuticals L.E.D. Face Masks are made from flexible silicone that comfortably moulds to the contours of your face. Each light sits at an optimal distance from your skin and the strategic placement of the LED lights ensures maximum light coverage. You don’t want to be lying awkwardly close to a power point plug for even 10-minutes of a day.

Being battery operated means you can use it anywhere that suits you. It’s a lightweight at-home device that offers results on par with clinical machines.

Are there any ways to boost the results of the LED with supplementary skincare?

To optimise your results, start with a thorough cleanse of your skin before use to remove any barriers to light that may have built up over the day or night, allowing the rejuvenating light to penetrate your skin. Try Micro Derm Exfoliant by Dp Dermaceuticals, a versatile cleanser and exfoliant that removes dulling residue and dead skin cells. You can also upgrade your LED experience with the Lumafuse Hydrogel Sheet Mask, which slips on underneath. Packed with rejuvenating actives, the light helps the actives penetrate deeper, and the gel consistency of the mask allows the light to reach optimal levels as well. These intensely moisturising masks leave you with a healthy, radiant, glowing complexion. The LED light absorbs through the hydrogel for enhanced penetration of both the actives and light.

To get the best results, use your Dp Dermaceuticals LED Masks at home 3-5 days a week for a minimum of 4 weeks. It’s safe to increase the number of days beyond this, and you can even double dose if you like. If you are doing in-clinic your sessions could range from 1-6 depending on your skin concern. No downtime needed. Once this initial period is over, we recommend incorporating regular maintenance sessions into your usual skincare routine to keep your skin smooth, firm and hydrated.
