The most overlooked revenue and the way to capture it

Most clinic owners reach for the same two levers when they want to grow: more hours or higher prices, both have limits. There are only so many hours in a week you can realistically work, and price increases are necessary but they happen once or twice a year.

If you cannot see more clients, you need to earn more per client. Not by raising prices overnight or adding another day to your schedule, by capturing revenue that is already sitting inside every appointment you are already running.

That is what add-ons do. No new clients, longer days or extra marketing spend. Just more value delivered from the time and space you already have.

THIS IS WHAT WE MEAN

Five add-ons that pay for themselves

01 LED light therapy

$45–$49 Extra time: 5 minutes

The panel runs for 10–15 minutes while your therapist does everything else: cleans the station, prepares the next step, writes notes. LED is a popular addition to many treatment protocols and is often recommended as part of a professional skincare journey. It’s also a natural homecare conversation waiting when they finish up.

02 Collagen Gloves

$20–$25 Extra time: 2 minutes

Hands go into gloves while the facial runs. The immediate improvement in how the skin feels makes the benefit easy for clients to appreciate, and a second pair retailed to take home turns a $20 in-treatment add-on into $40. Pre-packaged and single-use means no preparation and consistent delivery every time.

03 Collagen Knee-High Socks

$20–$25 Extra work: 2 minutes

Same logic as the gloves, applied to the lower leg during any reclined treatment. Particularly well-suited to Dermapen, IPL, or longer facial protocols where the lower body is otherwise ignored. A small addition that clients tend to mention when they describe the appointment to someone else.

04 Hand and arm massage

$20–$30 Extra time: 5–10 minutes

A five to eight minute massage using a balm that melts into an oil, delivered while the client is already lying down. The kind of upgrade that shifts how a client describes your clinic. not just what you treated, but how the whole visit felt. Clients who experience it tend to mention it when they refer someone.

05 Mindful meditation

$15–$20 Extra time: 2 minutes

A guided breathwork experience during treatment downtime. No consumable cost beyond the initial setup. Most skin clinics are not occupying this space, and that is the opportunity.

How to recommend without it feeling like a sell
Add-on recommendations feel uncomfortable when therapists frame them as sales. They are not a sale, but clinical observations with a logical next step attached.

The most effective recommendation happens during the skin analysis, when you are already assessing what you see. Tie the suggestion to a specific observation and the conversation becomes professional rather than promotional.

“I’m noticing some visible redness along your jawline today. I’d recommend adding LED as part of today’s treatment experience. It runs while we work so it won’t add any time. Would you like to include it?

“Your skin is looking a little dry today. I’d like to add a hyaluronic booster to complement today’s treatment. It’s $20 on top of your treatment. Happy for me to add it in?”

“You mentioned you haven’t been sleeping well. While your mask is on I could include a hand massage with our calming oil, it only takes a few minutes and most clients find it really helps them switch off. Want me to add that for you?”

Three things make this consistent across a team:

  • The recommendation is tied to what the therapist actually observed, not offered to every client regardless of their skin on the day.
  • The therapist knows the clinical reason, so the language is confident rather than tentative.
  • The option has already appeared on the booking form, so the client arrives expecting the conversation.

Add-ons are not about getting clients to spend more. They are about delivering more value within the time you already have together.

Your BDE can help you price these into your current treatment menu and build the recommendation into your flow.
